More DC television new

Post by fudd71 »

the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that The CW is developing a show based on Hour Man

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-f ... -dc-653261

With the success the WB has had with Arrow & Smallville and the success ABC is having with S.H.I.E.L.D isn't shouldn't be a surprise that they are turning to the DC catalog of characters to find programing.

The CW is also in desperate need of new programing with many failures of late. Both Beauty and the Beast and Carrie Diaries (a show that didn't have the ratings last year to even be on this fall's schedule) have dismal ratings, Nikita in its final season with terrible numbers only survived to this season because of syndication dollars, and Reign having very mediocre numbers that look better because the remainder of the CW line up is so bad. Lets not forget the five shows that didn't survive their first season in the last three years too (Emily Owens, Ringer, Secret Circle, Life Unexpected and Hellcats). It is not shocking they are trying to duplicate the success of Arrow, the networks only real hit other Supernatural which is in its 9th season. If Flash or Hour Man do well we could see the CWs entire line up be filled with DC characters in a few years.

I do think the choice of Michael Caleo as writer/developer/producer/show-runner is an interesting one. Mr. Caleo has been given several chances of late but with little success working his own projects. He was in the writers room for a season on the Sopranos and also worked on Rescue Me for a short time. In more recent days he wrote the film The Family that stared DeNiro and Pfeiffer, while it did make a small profit it was far from a huge success. This year however Mr. Caleo was the show-runner for arguably the biggest failure in television history, Ironside. That show had the lowest debut rating of any show in the history of major broadcast primetime. It will be interesting to see if Mr. Caleo can figure it out and make a show based on Hour Man that an audience will connect with.

not real interested in hourman but the last para graph is intriguing:

I had not heard some of this: "The CW's Arrow back-door pilot The Flash -- starring Glee's Grant Gustin -- NBC is adapting Constantine with David Goyer. Fox also handed out a straight-to-series commitment for Gotham, a Batman prequel series focused on Commissioner Gordon from The Mentalist boss Bruno Heller.

Meanwhile, The CW is still mulling Amazon, a potential Wonder Woman prequel series recounting the early days of the Justice League heroine."

Personally - i am much more excited for extinction parade: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/11/05/ ... n-the-way/

Hourman is an interesting pick. It seems that instead of going with the more classic take on the character he will have a one hour precog ability and race to save people during that hour. That sounds more like Early Edition than Hourman. That having been said, if it airs, I'll watch it.

Looks like the plans for how we my or may not the Flash in the Arrow television universe are changing once again. Looks like Barry won't get into the costume until a pilot episode and not on this season of Arrow.

Here is an article from the DC website speaking about the five shows based on DC Comics currently in development to some degree.

Even those his comic has come to an end, Vibe will apparently be a regular on the new Flash television series.

How about John Wesley Shipp as either Barry's father or Jay Garrick?

Next week the major US broadcast television networks have their upfronts. Where the official fall schedules are released and pitched to advertisers. Often networks will make statements before these events, not really as many surprises as there use to be. Not that this surprising, but iZombie and The Flash are officially on the CW schedule and have been picked up.
