Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
Just read on CBR that Nightwing, Suicide Squad, and a few others received the ax. Interesting moves by DC.
Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
Here is what is ending in the New 52 as of the February 2014 solicits:
- Nightwing
- Stormwatch
- Suicide Squad
- Teen Titans
- Superman Unchained
- Batman: Eternal
- Justice League United
- Secret Origins
- Aquaman and the Others
- Sinestro
Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
I'm not convinced some of these titles and characters won't be back in a different form and very soon.
Stormwatch deserved to be cancelled based on sales.
Superman Unchained feels like a creative team that simply didn't have the time or interest to continue. Issue #5 sold in the 97K range and was the first issue under 100K in sales. Scott Synder is obviously very busy with Batman and the new weekly book. Jim Lee has always struggled to put out a monthly book and with his corporate responsibilities it can't be getting easier.
Nightwing is a beloved character and sells in the 40K range. Teen Titans while not having a lot of buzz is still selling around 30K and Suicide squad continues to sell in the 25K range. These three cancellations feel more like it may have something to do with how Forever Evil ends and I expect to see these characters in new books soon if they survive the end of Forever Evil. (Harley Quinn already has her own book)

Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Young Justice title sort of along the lines of the television series but set in the New 52.
Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
JLA is also ending to make way for United
i am surprised unchained didnt just get a creative team change and continue for a while, surprising bit of restraint on DC's part not to milk it...
I count 28 first waves still solicited for April but that includes canceled nightwing, sucide squad, stormwatch , teen titans
so 24 of the first wave 52 will be left...not bad i guess since marvel has zero non-canceled titles at issue 30 or higher at that point

Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
I missed the final issue note on Justice League of America which is silly since I knew it was ending. After factoring that in, I counted 29 wave 1 titles in this round of solicitations with 25 continuing into the next month. Those 25 are:
- Action Comics
- All Star Western
- Aquaman
- Batgirl
- Batman
- Batman and ...
- Batwing
- Batwoman
- Birds of Prey
- Catwoman
- Detective Comics
- Flash
- Green Arrow
- Green Lantern
- Green Lantern Corps
- Green Lantern: New Guardians
- Justice League
- Justice League Dark
- Red Hood and the Outlaws
- Red Lanterns
- Superboy
- Supergirl
- Superman
- Swamp Thing
- Wonder Woman
Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
and next possible "first wavers" on the chopping block IMHO:
- Animal Man-selling 18,823 copies
- All-Star Western-selling 13,440 copies but since its genre may stick around
- Batwing-selling 10,753 copies-jeez should have been gone months ago
- Batwoman-selling 23k and no JH art [WebWiz6]
- Birds of Prey- selling 17,497 copies
- Catwoman-selling 26,482 copies + bad writer-is probably safe for now
- Red Hood and the Outlaws- selling 25,382
- Red Lanterns-selling 26,242 + too many lantern books
- Superboy-selling 17,690 copies
- Supergirl-selling 22,646 copies-can't cancel all these low-selling female led books though so may be safe
- Swamp Thing- selling 20,247 copies

Animal man is already announced as ending with issue #29 and the character will end up in Justice League Canada (or whatever they end up calling that book when it is finally solicited)drew102e wrote:and next possible "first wavers" on the chopping block IMHO:

Personally I feel like books at 25K are fairly safe if the creative teams have the time and desire to continue doing them. That makes Catwoman, Red Hood, and Red Lanterns fairly safe at this point.
Books in the 23K range seem to usually get a last-ditch effort to save them. That may be the reason we are seeing Supergirl crossing over with Red Lanterns (very strange cross-over in my opinion) My point being that Supergirl and Batwoman (with a new creative) will most likely get another 5-8 issues to see what happens.
All-Star Western and Batwing (Birds of Prey is quickly getting into this territory too) almost defy logic as to why they are still being published, and the others on this list may not be long for this world.
Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
Batwing was retooled but that was long enough ago they might pull the plug on that title.drew102e wrote:and next possible "first wavers" on the chopping block IMHO:

Superboy has just been retooled which probably buys in a few more months.
Supergirl is appearing in Red Lanterns and Justice League United which implies they want to keep that character in play. Sales are above 20,000 so the title is safe for now.
Birds of Prey is a title likely to end soon. Both it an Batwing could end as soon as the next round of solicitations.
Re: Higgins to Leave Nightwing + Teen Titans Ends in May
does DC have any other persons of color-led books (vibe is gone now)? to stay inclusive with a diverse lineup, that might explain Batwing still sticking around...

DC is starting up a Sinestro title. He is "of color." Does that count?drew102e wrote:does DC have any other persons of color-led books (vibe is gone now)? to stay inclusive with a diverse lineup, that might explain Batwing still sticking around...

I like the idea that big crossovers have consequences whether it is killing, relocating, or resurrecting characters. DC has done a nice job with that.fudd71 wrote:These three cancellations feel more like it may have something to do with how Forever Evil ends ...
