What is your pre-order looking like this month?

Post by bralinator »

The current Preorder Month at Discount Comic Book Service (DCBS) is August 2015

https://www.dcbservice.com/

I've got the following items in my monthly order cart, but I'm waiting to pull the trigger. Two big items that have me over my budget are at the end of the list:

Hip Hop Family Tree #3
Fight Club 2 #6
Back To The Future #1
Captain America: White #3
Doctor Strange #1
Infinity Gauntlet #5
Secret Wars #8
Weirdworld #5
Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens #3 & 4
Star Wars #11
Red Sonja Conan #3
Wonder Woman '77 Special #2
Grumpy Cat #1
Dead Drop TPB
Switch #1
Twilight Children #1
Paper Girls #1
Black Magick #1
Invincible #124
Codename Baboushka: Conclave of Death #1
I Hate Fairyland #1
Batman Illustrated by Neal Adams Omnibus HC
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Omnibus

Any advice? Anything that you have your eye on for this order month? Any awesome specials we may be overlooking? I know I'll frequently search the "CLEARANCE" items to see if there's something I missed now at a price I just can't refuse. And then there's the "SPECIAL DISCOUNT" items that often contain a gem or two at a bargain - especially bundles, new items, and collections.

I added Codename Baboushka: Conclave of Death #1 to my order after listening to you clip on So, thanks for that.

Both of those high ticket items seem like good picks. Personally, I found the unabridged nature of the first issue of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep to be a little awkward. The "he said" captions didn't add anything for me and seemed a bit silly. That having been said, I get why they went that way and respect the unabridged nature of the project (versus an adaptation of the book).

I still need to factor in the bundles on my order and probably won't get to that until this weekend.

I hope CodeName Baboushka turns out to be a gem then. It looked interesting at least.

Now I'm considering your feedback on on the DADOES issue #1, but I'm such a Philip K Dick fan and a fan of Blade Runner, That I don't think I can resist, not for that price - collecting 24 issues.

Would look forward to your pre-order list John, when you complete it.

JOHN!

That's nearly 200 books a month, equating to about a long box worth of comics. I'm simply stunned that you find time to read 50 comics a week - your reading pace must be voracious. I'm good if I read 3 or 4. All that reading, plus your job, and recording several podcast a week, where do you find the time? I don't know how you do it.

There 's only so much real estate, so do you hang on to every comic you get or do you decide after reading them if that particular issue is something you'll read again and keep or if it's something you'll give away, sell, donate, trade, etc?

Thanks for sharing your DCBS list with us John. Very enlightening :)

Yes, that is around 200 comics a month which is around four dozen or more a week. And, yes, it can be challenging to keep current. I'm currently the better part of a month behind thanks to the cruise, Comic-Con and a few other things. I try to manage my time carefully so I can do as much as I can which is far less than I'd like to be able to do.

I keep all of the comics. I've got a room in the house devoted to them. It is a den/office on the first floor and with the doors closed, it keeps the collection out of sight. I've also got a ton of comics, trades and other stuff in the upstairs game room which acts as my home office. Space is an issue. At some point, I'll move into a house with a floor plan that works better for a large comic book collection. Or I'll figure out a way to use the space I've got better. Floor to ceiling shelves would give me room for another 80 or 90 Drawer Boxes which would solve the problem for a while. Or, at least it might if I could figure out how I'd deal with the boxes at the upper shelves...

I've considered something like that. I'd want something that I could rest a comic box on. It would take some serious remodelling of the room to full leverage all of the space up to 10 foot ceiling. At some point I'll go down that path but I'm not ready to do that yet.

A pretty big month for me. I also ordered from DCBS all of the Convergence titles that were marked down to a dollar that I had skipped as well as added any 35 cent books that I had missed. Finally, there were some add on items like earlier issues of Prez, Swords of Sorrow, Book of Death and Enormous, and finally the Vader and E-Man trades.
Below is the items I ordered from the August Previews. (I am constantly adding and dropping things to fit my budget usually right up to the deadline.)

Airship Enterprise #1
Best of Zen TP
Blade #1
Book of Death #4
BPRD Hell On Earth #136
Contest of Champions #1
Creepy Comics #22
Enormous V2 #3
Gravedigger Hot Women Cold Cash TP
Howling Commandos of Shield #1
Invincible #124
Justice League #45
Justice League United #14
Kodoja #1
Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions #1 TP
Prez #5
Rebels #7
Rook #1
Secret Wars #8
Star Trek Ongoing #50
Star Wars TP Journey To Sw Force Awakens Shatter Empire
Steam League #1
Swords of Sorrow #6
Telos #1
Titans Hunt #1
Transformers #46
Transformers More Than Meets Eye #46
Uncanny Inhumans #1
Unity #23
Weirdworld #5
Wes Craven Coming of Rage #1
Witchblade #185
Zen Hard Bounty #1

In addition to the mainstream D.C./Marvel titles, plus everything with "Star Trek" in it, I've been ordering "Public Relations" by First/Devil's Due. (Did I get the publisher correct?) As with Black Hood, not the sort of thing I'd normally order, but in the last Previews catalog they gave us a one-page preview, which contained an off-color joke which so funny that it made me laugh out loud and then giggle periodically for several days. I decided I owed them a shot for giving me a good laugh, so I'm sure I'll get the entire 5-issue series.

I'm also getting Larry Hama's G.I.Joe title, and Cullen Bunn's "Voltron" take. Speaking of, seems like Bunn is writing about two dozen titles these days or is that my imagination?
