Barker's back on Hellraiser! (Prelude AND Preview)

Post by BobBretall »

The new Hellraiser comic from Boom! hits the stands today.

The cool part is that it's written by Cliver Barker & this is only the third time that Clive has "touched" the characters — the first with his novella "THE HELLBOUND HEART" and the second being the first HELLRAISER film. With the HELLRAISER ongoing comic series, Clive Barker returns to his signature creation.

In honor of this re-launch, Boom! has provided an exclusive 8-page "Prelude" to the comic that available via PDF:

* This is is a complete self-contained original 8 page Hellraiser story.
* The story takes place before issue #1 of the new HELLRAISER ongoing, written by Clive Barker and drawn by Leonardo Manco
* This IS NOT a preview of anything from the first issue. This is all new, all original content.
* There is no way to get this content outside of the PDF. It will not be put into print until the TPB collection.

Lots of comics news sites will be covering this today, here's the ComicBookPage 'nod' to horror master Clive Barker:

You can download the prelude here: ==>

Here's the cover and a couple of Preview pages from issue #1 (available today):

So, what do you think?? I'm personally looking forward to getting my hands on the full issue. I think Manco's art looks FABULOUS!

Cool. I have this on my pull list already, I'm a pretty big fan of Barker and have read almost all of his stuff. Imajica was an absolute epic, but his short stories are some of the best I've read, as well as his novellas like Hellbound Heart or Cabrini Green [candyman].

Just read the PDF, pretty good except some of the dialogue I didn't like. The guy is in incredible pain and yells out "There's a fire burning in my brain!" .... I just see that as getting stabbed by a killer and yelling "Oh god that feels like a hot pain in my side!"

Same thing happened later with the priest. Something like "Angels in Heaven hear me!" as he's being pulled apart, Pinhead says "I'm listening", then the priest replies, "I said 'heaven'". So you're in horrible pain but can still banter, impressive.

I hope that cleans up for the main series, that stuff bothers me.

That doesn't bother me at all. Very standard comics stuff & a bit better than inarticulate AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGH!!!! all the time.

Kind of the difference between a comic (where that is a moment in time captured in a single panel) & a movie with sound & motion.
